5 Easy Steps to Becoming a PC Student

Are you a new student?

1. Admission

  • Complete an Admission Application
  • Go to www.portervillecollege.edu, click on the "My BanWeb" link, then click on the "Submit an Admission or Update Form" link
  • Web register for HMSV P095.

2. Assessment

Call 791-2446 or 791-2329 after completing the admissions process for an assessment appointment. Assessment is used to measure writing, reading, and mathematics skills.  It is required if you plan to:

  • take an English, math, or other class with  prerequisites
  • earn a degree
  • earn a certificate
  • transfer
  • participate in the matriculation process for priority registration appointments

      Students can request:

  • English as a Foreign Language session
  • Accommodations for learning disability

3. Orientation

Students must complete a one-hour session on information regarding Porterville College, such as:

  • registration procedures
  • on campus resources
  • educational goals
  • assessment scores distribution
  • test scores interpretation
  • matriculation process for priority registration appointments

4. Academic Advising

Counselors/faculty advisors will:

  • review your assessment scores with you for recommended placement in courses
  • develop with you a StudentEducational Plan (SEP)
  • assist you with choosing classes

Recent high school graduates wishing to enroll in atransferable-level math course are required to bring in official high school transcripts.

5. Registration

Open web registration generally begins during the thirteenth week of a semester for the following term. Go to www.portervillecollege.edu and click on "Web Registration."

Special Admit Students

(concurrently enrolled high school students only)

  • Complete the Petition for Special Admit Students that can be obtained from a high school counselor or go to www.portervillecollege.edu under Early High School Admit Program.  Obtain the appropriate signatures for the high school.
  • Complete the PC Admission form
  • Submit the Special Admit Petition, high school transcript and admission form to the Office of Admissions and Records

 

Are you a continuing student?

Admission

  • Complete an Update form
  • Go to www.portervillecollege.edu, click on the "My BanWeb" link, then click on the "Submit an Admission or Update Form" link

Assessment

You may skip this step if you have taken the PC Assessment Test.

Orientation

If you previously attended an orientation, skip this step.

If you have never attended an orientation, you are expected to attend one.

Academic Advising

Counselors/faculty advisors will

  • review your assessment scores with you for recommended placement in courses
  • develop with you a Student Educational Plan (SEP)
  • assist you with choosing classes
  • Call 791-2329 for advising appointments.

    Registration

    Students who are fully matriculated and enrolled in classes on Monday of the third week of a semester will receive an appointment for priority registration for the following semester.

    Special Admit Students

    Complete an Update form, Special Admit Petition, registration form and submit with transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Records

     

    Are you a former student?

    Admission

    If you attended:

    • before 1991:   complete admissions as a new student
    • 1991 or after: complete update as a continuing student

    Assessment

    You may skip this step if you have taken the PC Assessment Test

    Orientation

    If you previously attended an orientation, skip this step.

    If you have never attended an orientation, you are expected to attend one.

    • assist you with choosing classes

    Registration

    Special Admit Students

    Complete an Update form, Special Admit Petition, registration form and submit with transcripts to the Office of Admissions and Records

    *If you have received a two-year or higher degree from another school but are new to PC, you are exempt from the requirements for orientation, assessment and counseling
