Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to submit an application in order to apply?

Yes.  Porterville College/Kern Community College District has three applications forms; one for academic (faculty), one for classified (support staff), and one for confidential/management.  You must submit the correct Kern Community College District application in order to be considered.  The correct application is specified on the job announcement.  All application forms are available from our website and Human Resources.

Do I need to submit a separate application for each position I'd like to apply for?

Yes. 

Where can I get an application?

An application form may be downloaded from this site or you may contact Human Resources at (559) 791-2225 and request that one be mailed to you.  Applications are also available in the Human Resources lobby.

How do I apply?

Follow the instructions listed in the "Application Procedures" of the position announcement.  Application and EEO survey forms are available from this website and Human Resources.  Once you have completed the application and provided all requested document, send your application packet via US mail or drop it off at Human Resources.

Do you accept applications on-line?

Not at this time.  You may download and complete the application on your computer; however, you must print the application form, sign, and date it. 

When is my application due?

Application AND required supporting materials must be received in Human Resources (Porterville College) no later than the specified deadline.

Priority or first review deadline: Complete application packets received by the stated "priority" or "first review" deadline are assured consideration.

Closed deadline: Applications/materials received after a stated "closing date" will not be considered.

Do I have to complete all portions of the application if I attach a resume?

You must complete all sections of the application form even if you attach a resume.  Applications stating "see resume" will not be considered.

May I leave a copy of my resume on file for future job openings?

Applications are accepted for posted openings only. However, applications for the adjunct faculty pool and the short-term/substitute pool are accepted on a continual basis.  

Will my application be considered if I do not provide all the materials requested in the position announcement?

No. 

How long after I apply might I know whether I have been selected to interview or not?

All interviews are done by committee and timeframes vary.  You will be contacted either way.

I have a disability covered under ADA and need a reasonable accommodation in order to apply for this position.  Who do I contact?

Are unofficial transcripts acceptable for the application process?

Yes, unofficial transcripts (copies) are acceptable for the application process.  The successful candidate will be asked to provide official transcripts prior to employment. 

I attended more than one academic institution.  Are transcripts required from each college or university that I attended?

Yes, if transcripts are requested, you must provide transcripts verifying all collegiate course work.

May I include a photograph with my resume?

No, please do not include any photographs; if provided, the photo will be covered or removed prior to review by the screening committee.

What about foreign degrees?

Required degrees and credits must be from an accredited institution (Title 5, Section 53406). Transcripts for a foreign degree must be accompanied by an evaluation from a foreign transcripts evaluation service indicating the equivalent U.S. degree and major area.
